The Barn Owl Centre

Recently I went to visit the owls at The Barn Owl Centre. Lots of new owls had just been brought in by the RSPCA, a few of whom were badly injured. Vince who owns and runs the centre was hard at work with his team caring for the birds whilst also trying to build new aviaries for the many owls and birds of prey that pass through the centre.

Many of the birds that arrive have been kept as domestic pets with owners who don't know how to care for them so they are often mistreated or neglected. Numbers have increased over the past few years partly due to the popularity of Hedwig in Harry Potter. It is far better to adopt an owl at The Barn Owl Centre than keep one as a pet. Click here to adopt. Others are injured wild owls that need a bit of TLC before they are released back into the wild. The Barn Owl Centre does various environmental projects and research studies that advance the conservation and preservation of the wild barn owl and other British Owls as well as educating the public.
